Welcome to ADeC!
The Academic Enhancement and Leadership Development Centre, known by its acronym, ADeC, functions as UM’s professional development (i.e. training) centre for UM’s academic staff. ADeC offers a structured and holistic training programs, known covering competencies relevant to major life-stages of an academic career - early career new lecturers, mid-career senior lecturers and newly promoted associate professors, and established associate professors and newly-promoted professors. Each program consists of various modules within the domain of Teaching & Learning (T&L), Student Supervision, Research, Leadership and Wellbeing.
In addition to organizing training programs for UM academics, the centre also organizes various academic conferences and symposiums related to core activities of an academic career (e.g. T&L, academic and institutional leadership). The centre’s management team - all UM academics - are often invited to become members of various university committees and taskforces, including those related to academic talent development as well as academic matters.
ADeC occasionally hosts learning visits from similar professional development centres in other Malaysian and ASEAN Higher Education Institutions. ADeC also occasionally conducts training for academic talent in other Malaysian and ASEAN HEIs.
