BASIC COURSE FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING
(also known as Training Programme for New Lecturers-TPNL)
About the training:
The TPNL is a designed to equip academicians with basic skills vital to teaching in higher education generally, and in UM specifically. Participants will be exposed to basic aspects of teaching, including basic philosophy and pedagogy, scholarship of teaching and learning, as well UM-specific aspects of teaching in higher education, including an introductory workshop to UM's e-learning platform (SPeCTRUM).
The TPNL programme is offered three (3) times a year. Dates for 2017 TPNL are listed as below.
a) Series 1/2017: 9 -13 January 2017 (5 days) - Closed
b) Series 2/2017: 3 - 7 April 2017 (5 days) – Open for registration
c) Series 3/2017: 21 - 25 August 2017 (5 days) – Open for registration
The TPNL programme is a 30-hour course spread across five working days. The training programme involves lectures, discussions, as well as group and individual activities. Participants will explore and examine design principles and issues relevant to the construction of an effective learning experience. Modules will also engage participants in an interactive learning environment, while at the same time developing soft skills competencies.
Based on material covered in face-to-face workshops and lectures, TPNL participants will also be involved in independent work to develop their individual academic portfolios (i.e. for use during promotion applications).
